New Home for CAFB

In January 2011, construction began on a larger distribution center. Upon completion in 2012, the Capital Area Food Bank will be relocating to our new facility.

Why grow the food bank? Because hunger in this region is increasing dramatically, and our current facility lacks the space and technology required to meet the growing need. Though many of our partner agencies are seeing increases of up to 200% in the number of people who come through their doors, we must currently turn away millions of pounds of donated food each year due to a lack of room.

A bigger facility means that we can distribute a higher quantity and quality of food. It also means that our nutrition education and outreach programs, which address the root causes of hunger, can be expanded.
